Remove Facebook "like" button from your Posterous
Posterous has not done the responsible thing and asked us to opt-in to Facebook's security nightmare and evil global domination bullshit. They have, without asking me, included the "like" button on standard themes. Worse yet, they announced it like it was wonderful that they did so ... and they have not given me a way to opt-out short of customizing my theme.
I like Posterous very much. I appreciate what they give me, literally, for free ... But adding the "like" button without asking me is just as bad as what the evildoers at Facebook are doing now. It's just wrong.
BTW boys, I would happily pay a few bucks for this service. I'll bet a few million of my closest friends would too, so if monetization is the problem, just let us know.
So, without further ado ... here's how you can remove the "like" button:
1. Login to your Posterous account.
2. On the 'Settings' tab,
3. Click the big "Theme and customize my site" button in the "LOOK AND FEEL" area.
4. In the upper left hand corner, select "Advanced"
5. If you haven't already enabled custom theming at some point previously, you will be asked to enable it now. Click "Enable advanced theming" to .. you know, enable advanced theming.
5.a You will be asked to add a new custom theme to your theme list, starting with the standard theme you have currently selected. It'll ask you to name your creation. You can see that I have used the very clever "MyTheme" name.
6. At this point, irrespective of how you got here, you should be at something that looks like this:
6.a You may choose to click the "Expand" link just because it makes the next step a bit easier, at least it did for me.
7. Either use your browsers "Find" feature or just scroll down until you find the following offending text:
<div style="float: left; padding: 5px; overflow: visible;">
<fb:like href="{Permalink}" layout="button_count"></fb:like>
</div>
</div>
8. This link is the root of all evil. Delete it and the surrounding divs (in other words, all of the text shown above).
9. Click "Save, I'm Done!" button in the lower left hand corner.
10. You should be all set ... no more "like" button ... and more importantly, no more participation in the biggest and most closed pseudo-legal privacy scam in recent history.

Thanks for the tip. It's not only a privacy issue, it's a style issue.
